The 2016 Oscar nominations are in and Sylvester Stallone has received a Best Supporting Actor nomination for his work as Rocky Balboa in Creed!
When he agreed to reprise his role as Rocky Balboa for the seventh time in Creed, he could hardly have imagined it would lead to a Golden Globe win for Best Supporting Actor and now an Oscar nomination in the same category.
Stallone joins Bing Crosby, Paul Newman, Peter O’Toole, Al Pacino and Cate Blanchett as actors who have earned nominations for playing the same role in different films. Stallone originally earned Oscar nominations for lead actor and original screenplay for the 1976 best-picture winner Rocky. The only other performer who enjoyed a 39-year span between Oscar nominations is Helen Hayes.
“You think about these things happening and they usually don’t, and now it is happening, so I’m really enjoying it,” said Stallone. “To to have bridged that gap back to where I started in drama. It is really amazing to me.”

Mr. Stallone, I've been following you since the original Rocky. I was 4 years old. You are truly awesome. I live in California and I am a composer for film and television. I've really struggled in a lot of ways been an autistic person but music seems to be my strongpoint in life as well as composing it and arranging it. As I said, I've followed your work since a very young age. You've always inspired me. Your movies, especially Rocky, have inspired me a lot especially with the loss of both of my parents in 1993. Tragically they both perished in a car accident. The messages in your movies helped me stay focused and strong through that time in my life. You're one of the greatest in your occupation and I have a lot of respect for you. I know you probably don't read all of these personally but just know that I've been a lifelong fan and will continue to be for the rest of my days. You are truly a winner in my book. Ok, at this point Creed has made $160,591,646 worldwide, Rocky Balboa made $155,721,132 worldwide. As I see it, Stallone is breaking his own records... And I must say, I loved the movie Rocky Balboa, it was the saving grace of Stallone´s legacy, but Creed is the topping on the cake, so to speak...

Congrats Sly. I am a lifelong fan in Ireland. I have watched Creed twice at the cinema so far. I was not too sure if I could as I did not want to see Rocky sick. It was an emotional rollercoaster. What a performance and what a film congrats too all involved.

Hi Sly, the best things in life come unexpected. I am glad you did Creed, its always nice to hear from Rocky Balboa, even if his journey was supposed to be over. I hope you get the Oscar. But If you don't, always remember: The gift, that was given with Rocky to all of us fans, is more worth then all the Oscars and prizes in the World.
