Sly took to Twitter this week with clues regarding the proposed director for The Expendables 3, the third outing in the hugely successful action franchise which is expected to shoot towards the end of the summer.
After allowing guesses from fans, Sly confirmed that Australian director Patrick Hughes is in line to get the job offer. Hughes will follow Stallone and Simon West who helmed the first two parts of the trilogy respectively.
Sly was sure to tweet about Patrick’s feature debut, Red Hill, which he regards as a great example of the director’s ability with limited budget and time.

Written and directed by Hughes, Red Hill is Patrick’s sole feature credit thus far. As Sly promised, it’s time for NEW BLOOD! Also, with actors like Wesley Snipes rumoured to be among the number of potential new additions to the line-up this time around, it’s an exciting time for fans of The Expendables.

Stallone is the example all young film makers should follow. He was flat broke, Hollywood offered him a lot of money to sell them the Rocky script. He stuck to his guns, knew it should be him in the role and history was made. Could you imagine how all of us would've been robbed of great movies if he did sell the rights and Ryan O'Neal or Burt Reynolds played Rocky? Sly is the ultimate Cinderella story... dreams come true! Thank you for all the great movies!

I normally do not encourage sequels to well made first time movies, but the more I follow Mr. Stallone's career, the more I realize, he just does not star in bad movies. I have watched as many of his movies as I possibly can, and am both continually convinced he can do no wrong in film, and am also continually impressed by his talent. He is probably by far the most impressive man on screen I have ever had the devout pleasure of watching. I hope we have many more years of entertainment provided by him.
