On the 47th anniversary of the original premiere of Rocky, Sylvester Stallone was back in Philadelphia to celebrate the inaugural ‘Rocky Day’
From a stage near the steps of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Stallone was awarded a Key to the City and December 3rd was officially declared ‘Rocky Day’ in Philadelphia. The event also served as a grand opening event for the Rocky Shop, which sells licensed merchandise from Stallone’s brand.
“Life is a fight,” Stallone said while addressing Sunday’s crowd. “It’s a tough fight and get ready. You’re going to win some and you’re gonna lose a lot. But the real victory is in never giving up and going the distance for yourself, your loved ones, and standing at the top of these steps you’re reminded that all things are possible. Keep punching.”

I like the way you keep punchin,' Rock, all throughout the decades!!! You kick in the door in one of The Expendables movies holding a submachine gun in your hands with the same energy, vitality, masculinity and resolution that you used to land straight punches and uppercuts with in the very first Rocky movie in 1976. I reckon that lady next to you, Ms. Jennifer Flavin, a former model should be extremely proud of you for having such a virile man in her life to be envied by many other young and not so young ladies as well. By the way, did you also become an honorary citizen of Philly that day???!

Greetings from Germany! Last year during my USA trip, I visited Philadelphia at the 8th of July - the day of the first public announcement of the Declaration of Independence. At the museum of arts, I stood in the line to make a photo with me and your Rocky statue, which a nice italo-american family did for me. After that, the man and his son of that family went to the stairs, where they replay the running scene from your Rocky movie, and the wife made a film from this funny action. It was just awesome. Thanks for giving people hope, joy - and for some also identity - with the movies you made. And meanwhile over decades. I love this city of brotherhood and all memories related to it.

I'm from Russia and I admire Sly. When I was a kid in the 80s, we watched Rocky and Rambo movies in video salons for 1 ruble a ticket. They were heroes for us, real heroes. Now I live in the USA and I still love watching movies with Sly. Yesterday our legendary Apollo Creed passed away and today I watched Rocky in his honor. Thank you to everyone who had a hand in these legendary movies. And remember, "It doesn't matter how you hit, it matters how you keep a punch!"

My family is Italian American. Needless to say, we have watched all the Rocky movies atleast 50 times each. We have even had fun family debates over them. Rocky 4 brought peace to the world when geography had us worlds apart. Talk about standing the test of time- thank you for the complete joy over the past several decades! If there is ever some sort of meet and greet or an event that I could get an autograph, please let me know and I will be there. It’s on my bucket list.
