Sly is auctioning his watch collection

On 5 June, Sotheby’s New York will auction eleven watches from Sylvester Stallone’s personal collection.

The highlight is a Patek Philippe Reference 6300G Grandmaster Chime – one of the most technically complex wristwatches ever made, of which only seven examples exist. It will be the first time one has appeared at commercial auction. Sotheby’s estimates it will fetch between $2.5 million and $5 million.

Stallone has talked about his relationship with watchmaking before, but the Sotheby’s auction comes with a short film in which he explains exactly how he acquired the Grandmaster Chime – by writing personally to the Patek board and making a case for himself as a serious collector. He describes it as the watch equivalent of owning a Monet. Among the other lots are four Panerai pieces, including the bronze Luminor Submersible he wore in The Expendables 2 (estimate: $30,000–$60,000), a Patek Nautilus with an olive dial and diamond bezel, an Audemars Piguet in pink gold, and a Rolex Day-Date with “SLY” engraved on the case back.

Stallone’s connection to Panerai in particular goes back decades — he wore the brand on camera in Daylight (1996) and is widely credited with introducing the watches to a wider audience. This auction gives collectors a rare opportunity to acquire pieces that come with genuine provenance. The full sale takes place 5 June 2024 at Sotheby’s New York.
